Catching up - My collection of printable Football Helmets
At the turn of the decade I began modeling and selling little football helmets.
I took pre-existing models from my Super Mario Huddle project, like this build for King Boo, and refitted them for 3d printing.
Most of the models had slightly skewed proportions to fit the Nintendo characters, so correcting those was my first order of business.
It took some time to get all those Booleans to work flawlessly, but I've sped up my workflow by a lot since the beginning. Granted, the Schutt F7 was probably the most complex project to start with.
Some of the models were commissioned work, others I made on my own behalf.
While I didn't get to print a helmet for myself, yet, I was super stoked to receive some photos from one of my clients and to hear that they were happy with my work.
To be honest, I was kinda nervous laying my work into someone's hand or rather someone's printer like that.
My first client and I hadn't talked about the scale beforehand, so I was a little surprised when it turned out he intended to print my model at a height of 25mm. So I definitely overshot the amount of detail...
Having learnt from that experience, I was able to make some good adjustements in arrangement with my next client.
So what's next?
While I have no idea where this field trip in printing will take me, I'll make sure to include my helmets in upcoming portrait renderings. After all, I'm sitting on a nice shader that I want to use! :)
As for upcoming renderings, I'm working on a portrait of my best friend and I in Asterix & Obelix costumes, utilizing some face scans of ours.
